As a result of COVID-19, we have risen to the challenge to assist our vulnerable population of seniors, veterans and developmentally disabled adults. In partnerships with Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida and the First United Methodist Church of Clermont. The Elese Tomlin Community Center has distributed 35,000 meals during the first 3 months of 2021. We deliver hot nutritous meals to seniors and persons who are homebound. We deliver food to individuals who are handicapped and can't prepare their own food, or persons recuperating from a medical condition can also receive door-to-door food deliveries. Through the Veterans And Seniors Empowerment Project (VASE), we eliminate food insecurity, empower and educate veterans, senior citizens and the developmentally disabled adults in our communities. We encourage and support the elderly, veterans and disabled clients by providing activities that help prevent isolation and depression, while at the same time promoting family unification. In partnership with Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida, we provide 700 meals each Tuesday. Seniors in Groveland receive hot meals Monday thru Friday.
