THE VASE PROJECT (Meals on Wheels)

As a result of COVID-19, we have risen to the challenge to assist our vulnerable population of seniors, veterans and developmentally disabled adults. In partnerships with Second Harvest of Central Florida and Living Hope Church, formerly First United Methodist Church of Clermont, the Elese Tomlin Community Center distributed 35,000 meals during the first 3 months of 2021.  We deliver hot nutritous meals to seniors, veterans and disabled adults who are homebound.  We also deliver food to individuals who are recuperating from a medical procedure with door-to-door deliveries.  Through the Veterans And Seniors Empowerment Project (VASE), we eliminate food insecurity, empower and educate veterans, senior citizens and the developmentally disabled adults in our communities. We offer computer and cybersecurity classes to keep our vulnerable population safe from hackers and scammers.  We encourage and support the elderly, veterans and disabled clients by providing activities that help prevent isolation and depression, while at the same time promoting family unification.  Seniors in Groveland receive hot meals Monday thru Friday.  For specific details about eligibility or to sign up for deliveries, please click on the Meals on Wheels information links below.
